Rajakeeya Puraskaram 2009
We were once again blessed with the rarest of the opportunities to conduct the award distribution ceremony for 2009 at Rashtrapathy Bhavan a second time on 19th February 2010. A number of eminent personalities of international reputation from across the country were honored. The supreme title ‘Dharma Ghadga’ was awarded toMatha Amruthananda Mayi Math which was received from the hands of Her Excellency the President of India by her disciple His Holiness Amruthaswaroopananda Puri. The other recipients of the royal awards were Sri. Amithabh Bachchan, Dr. K.Radhakrishnan, Dr. M. Balamurali Krishna, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Sri. T. Hariharan, Sri. C.M. Ibrahim, Brahmasri. P.C. Dinesan Nampoothiripad, Dr. Jame Abraham, Dr. K.C. Abraham, Sri. R.K.Ramesh, Prof. (Dr). Deviprasad Dwivedi and a few others. We whole heartedly express our sincere thanks to the first citizen of India Smt. PratibhaDevisingh Patil for having been so gracious as to let us conduct the Pazhassi Award distribution ceremony at the magnificent premises of Rashtrapathy Bhavan.

Rajakeeya Puraskaram 2008
The proudest moment in the short history of the Trust was when the benevolent President of India so graciously allowed us to conduct the award distribution ceremony in the premises of the majestic Rashtrapathi Bhavan in New Delhi on 27th February 2009 in a meeting anchored by Prof. M. V.S Namboothi Treasurer, Veera Pazhassi Foundation. Dr. P.P Pramod Kumar welcomed the gathering and Peeyush M Namboothiripadu rendered a poem on Pazhassi. Her Excellency, the President herself gave away the supreme title ‘Dharma Ghadga’ to the veteran politician and writer Sri. M.P.Veerendra Kumar M.P and the other awards to Sri. M.T. Vasudevan Nair, Sri. T. Hariharan, Dr. M.S. Valiyathan, Dr. Kasthuri Rangan, Dr. E. sreedharan, and a few illustrious industrialists. That the Trust got such an envious chance to stage the function at a place not less than Rashtrapathi Bhavan is a clear vindication, we humbly believe, of the goodwill we have been able to win over the years. From the recess of our hearts, we thank the Hon. President for the kind gesture.

The 203rd ‘Veerahuthi’ commemoration was observed at Alakapuri Auditorium Kozhikode on 29th November 2008. The meeting was inaugurated by Shri. Gokulam Gopalan, the celebrated entrepreneur. The very next day the members of the Trust and leaders of political and cultural movements visited ‘Pazhassikudeeram’ and paid tributes to the memory of Veera Pazhassi.

Apart from these regular observances the Trust conducted various social, medical and educational projects intermittently during the last few years. To name a few, the successful eye camp at Thiruvalla by the Madurai Arabind Eye Hospital, Blood Group detection Camp held at Perambara, a series of seminars on academic and social subjects, tour to various spots of historical importance are some of the programs to be highlighted.

Rajakeeya Puraskaram 2007
The 202nd ‘Veerahuthi’ day was observed on 30th November 2007 at ‘Pazhassi Smruthi Mandapam’ ( the sacred place of his eternal rest), The members of the various Malabar royal Families and leaders and historians of the place paid floral tribute to the first freedom fighter of India.A fabulous function was held on 26th December 2007 at Tagore Centenary Hall which was inaugurated by His Excellency the Vice President of India Shri. Hameed Ansari. His Excellency the Governor of Kerala Shri. R.L Bhatia presided over the function. Hon’ble Leader of opposition Shri. Oommen Chandy, Minister for Industries Shri. Elemaram Kareem, Minister for Forest Shri. Binoy Viswam, H.H. Pazhassi Kerala Varma Raja, the present title holder, Chairman Dr. Pramod Kumar and Prof. M.V.S. Nampoothiri participated and spoke.His Excellency the Vic-President gave away the prestigious award ‘ Dharma Ghadga’ to Padmabhooshan Justice V.R Krishna Iyer, and various awards to Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, Shri. Bharath Suresh Gopi, Shri. S. Krishnakumar IAS, Dr. Chandrasekharan Nair, Shri. P.N.C. Menon, Smt. Gopika Varma, Shri. K.M. Basheer, Shri. M.Muhammed, Dr. K.P Hashim, Shri. A.K Taruvayi, Shri. Thachillottu Narayanan and Smt. Bency Martin in recognition of their meritorious contributions rendered to the society, representing different walks of life like Legal Prudence, Agriculture, Politics, Culture, Industry, Literature, Social service etc…

Pazhassi Fest
Besides, the members of the Trust went on a pilgrim to ‘Mananthody’ and paid tributes to the sacred memory of the historic warrior king who sleeps his eternal sleep there. Shri. Kunhiraman, Hon’ble M.L.A Wayanad, Sri. Ibrahim Kaipani, Block Panchayath member and leaders of sociopolitical and cultural fields participated in the solemn function. Hon’ble Minister for Devaswom Sri. G. Sudhakaran inaugurated the cultural program conducted in connection with the memorial function in Kozhikode on 27th November 2006.

Sr. P.M.A. Salam M.L.A., Sri. Thottathil Ravindran, Sri. P.V. Chandran, Dr. Peeyush. M. Nampoothiripad, Dr. Pramod Kumar, Sri. M.K.Ravi Varma Raja and a number of leaders from the different walks of life participated in the function.


Rajakeeya Puraskaram 2006
His Excellency, the Governor of Kerala Shri. R.L Bhatia inaugurated the function to commemorate the 201st anniversary of Veera Pazhassi’s sacrifice, on 10th November 2006 at Tagore Centenary Hall, Kozhikode in which the Hon’ble Leader of Opposition Shri. Oomman Chandy, Dr. Peeyush Nampoothirippad, Mayor Shri. Bhaskaran, Shri. Keralavarma Valiya Raja, Shri.M.K. Ravi Varma Raja and Dr. Pramod Kumar spoke. Shri. V.M. Sudheeran, former Minister and former Speaker, was symbolically awarded the ‘Dharma Khadgom’ by the Governor in recognition of his selfless, sterling service in politics. Dr. G.Madhavan Nair, Chairman ISRO and Dr. Krishnan Nair Director, RCC, Trivandrum were awarded ‘Sasthra Ratna Puraskaram’ and ‘Vydyabhooshan Puraskaram’ respectively. Shri. Bharath Mammooty, the matinee idol, Shri. M. M Ramachandran, Shri Vivekanandan, Shri Martin Sebastian and Shri. Jayaraj Varrier, the famous Caricaturist were also presented with various and appropriate awards.

Rajakeeya Puraskaram 2005
Opening a new chapter in the history of Kerala, the then Opposition Leader Com. Achuthanandan inaugurated the memorial meeting at Samoothiri High School, Kozhikode on 30th Nov. 2005. The function was made conspicuous by the presence of the representatives of all the royal dynasties of the erstwhile Malabar Province. The Opposition Leader in the course of his speech confessed on behalf of the historians that the biography of the valiant king and his battles against the British have not been faithfully recorded. He also remembered the series of rebellions Pazhassi launched against the alien domination with the assistance of his tribal associates, the Kurichiars. The first royal award (Rajakeeya Puraskaram) ‘Dharma Khadgom’was symbolically awarded to Comrade V.S. Achuthanandan by H.H. Kerala Varma of south Kovilakam.

The renowned movie director Shri. T. Hariharan was awarded ‘Veer Sringhala’ for his commendable contributions to the movie world through his classic films. The organizers and the Opposition Leader suggested he make a classic movie on the Raja’s biography and the series of battles conducted by the valiant king. Shri. Hariharan had no second thought to accept the suggestion. We are really proud and happy that the project proposed on that occasion has now been materialized. Shri. P. Damodaran and Shri. Nikesh Kumar were also honored on the occasion. The meeting was followed by a colorful cultural program.
